Cheam Common Road Flooding
At the end of last year, during a surgery visit at The British Legion in Worcester Park, constituents shared their concerns with me about the condition of the flooding in Cheam Common Road. The issue had been ongoing for a while and it was not clear where the responsibility for the issue lay.
As a result of this, I have been taking action on your behalf to ensure that the correct authority takes responsibility for the flooding and a permanent solution can be found.
I originally contacted SES water on the 30th September to request that they investigate the leak. I then received a response back from the Pennon Group on the 6th October confirming that they had surveyed the area and they could not find an issue with their assets. They also tested the water from the flood and the tests showed that the water did not come from their infrastructure.
SES confirmed that they then contacted Sutton Council to request that the council do an excavation in the area where the water is showing. To ensure that this was done, I emailed Sutton Council on the 7th October to see what other steps have been taken to ensure progress was made on the issue.
The Council came back to me on the 17th October to confirm that they had engaged with a specialist contractor with the intent to determine the cause of the leak.
After my correspondence with both SES water and Sutton Council, I am now pleased to report the council have confirmed they will be undertaking excavation and a CCTV survey, to determine the cause of the leak and identify who is responsible for the land. I am glad to see that they are on site now investigating.
Once this is discovered, I hope that this will then lead to a permanent repair being implemented. Please be assured that as your MP, I will continue to monitor this situation closely to ensure that the excavation is successful and the condition of the road improves.
I would like to thank the community for raising this with me so I could take action on it. If you would like to be kept informed of any progress made by Sutton Council to identify the leak, please do get in touch at Luke.taylor.mp@parliament.uk.
Alternatively, if you have any other issues you would like to share, please get in touch with my office to raise them. Your local Lib Dem team is here to help with any issues and are keen to make sure your voice is heard.
