The full details of the deal are yet to be revealed, but we know it fails to remove tariffs previously imposed by President Trump. Negotiations are ongoing on crucial issues such as taxes on US tech barons, online safety protections for children and US influence on our NHS.

The Government has also failed to commit to a vote on any agreement, meaning Parliament might not get a say on the deal.

Responding to the agreement, Liberal Democrat MP for Sutton and Cheam, Luke Taylor MP said:

“Time and time again, Donald Trump has proved himself an unreliable ally. As one of the world’s major economic hubs, this trade deal will have huge consequences for our city.

“Our world leading digital services, our thousands of exporting SMEs, and ordinary people across the city have already been impacted by Trump’s tariffs and the Government must show how this deal improves the situation for them.

“Ultimately, Londoners deserve to have a say over something that touches our city as deeply as this - so Parliament must have its say. The Government must bring the deal to Parliament for a vote.

“But none of this should distract from the fact that the biggest step the Government could take to boost London’s economy is to remove the anchor around our ankle and rejoin the Single Market”.
