Tackling Cancer
A historic mission, with Sutton at its heart
Investing in our future means more than just roads, schools and businesses. It is also about supporting scientists and engineers to make the leaps forward that will make all of our lives better. Nowhere is that more prominent than with developing new breakthrough treatments for cancer.
I am so proud that Sutton is becoming a global centre for cancer research, with some of the world's biggest and best research institutions already working in Sutton, and more on the way.
As we fight for the future, nothing could be more important than setting ourselves a national mission to make the cancer breakthrough that changes everything.
I want us to back that mission and I will fight to make sure the work being done right here in Sutton will be right at the centre of it.
I'm proudly championing the new London Cancer Hub.
This world-leading facility will be nestled in the heart of Belmont, right next to the Institute of Cancer Research and the Royal Marsden Hospital. It will play host to companies and researchers at the cutting-edge of cancer research and could mean that some of the biggest breakthroughs in treatment will be developed right here in Sutton.
I'm personally very proud that this brilliant facility will be built in our community. It reflects how hard the Lib Dem Council has worked to encourage investors to boost our local economy, and it demonstrates the very best of Sutton - always willing to be at the forefront of new technology and pushing for advancements that could benefit the whole world.
