Luke Taylor lives in the east end of Mitcham and Morden constituency on Links Road, at the south end of the Alphabet Grid. He works as a Project Manager and analyst for an American Aviation Consultant, managing planning projects at airports around the world. He has a Masters Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Imperial College London.
His experience managing large and complex projects around the world has given him an appreciation of the importance of data and analysis to ensure that decisions are backed up by evidence. Involving the appropriate stakeholders at key stages of projects is vital to success, and the same goes for politics where the most important stakeholders are the residents that you represent.
Luke grew up in rural Lincolnshire, and spent many weekends helping his Dad leaflet and canvass small villages across the countryside. His Father, Neil Taylor, was a Liberal Democrat District Councillor for 24 years, and he taught him about the great honour he had serving his community for that time, and helping those in need. After finishing school Luke lived in Lichfield and Nottingham during his gap year, working at an aircraft parts factory in Ilkeston, before moving to London for university. He studied for four years at Imperial College, living in West Kensington, Fulham and Hammersmith. After graduating he started working for a large Engineering Consultancy in London, and moved south of the river to Vauxhall and then to Battersea.
Luke campaigned for Layla Moran in Battersea in the 2010 General Election, and decided then that he wanted the opportunity to serve the area that he lived in the next General Election. In 2012 Luke moved to Toronto, Canada with his job, also spending time in Auckland, New Zealand, and then back to London in 2014. When Luke and his wife returned to London, they moved into a flat in Clapham South and Luke was lucky enough to be selected to stand as the Liberal Democrat candidate in Battersea in the 2015 General Election. This was a fantastic opportunity, and was a very steep learning curve, but Luke had a brilliant time working with a great team in Battersea.
In summer 2015 Luke and his wife moved to Mitcham and Morden, and since then he has campaigned with the Merton Liberal Democrats to help make Merton Better. The Merton Liberal Democrats enjoyed fantastic success in Merton in 2018, with local residents backing the campaign to bring a Fresh Start for Merton, electing six fantastic councillors in Trinity, Dundonald and West Barnes wards, and then a seventh councillor in the Cannon Hill by-election in June 2019.
Outside of politics Luke loves to travel and through his work has been lucky enough to spend periods of time living in Dubai, Toronto and Auckland. He has worked on projects in Istanbul, Dublin, Abu Dhabi and Doha and also had the chance to regularly travel to these places. He enjoys playing 5-a-side football, Rugby and Cricket, and road cycling out into the Surrey countryside.
Luke's main focus is his family; son Teddy and wife Gemma, and cat Penny.
